The WKHS Band of Mariners traveled to Bayfield, WI on Sunday, October 8 to participate in the 56th annual Bayfield Apple Festival parade. The Band was one of 12 bands participating, and one of only 2 from MN (Duluth Marshall was the other). The parade kicked off at precisely 2pm with the Band of Mariners marching in the #13 spot, the coveted third band spot, behind host Bayfield and their rival Washburn. The Band looked sharp in Mariner blue and white hockey jerseys and matching sunglasses. The brand new banner was donated by Thrivent Financial. The weather was sunny and the crowd was estimated at over 60,000 people. The Band marched down Rittenhouse Ave twice, once as the Band of Mariners, and a second time as members of the 400 member Mass Band, which was started by Band Director Kerri Bilben's dad back in 1988. There were numerous Silver Bay families who traveled to Bayfield to cheer on the Band. It was an honor for the Band to be able to represent WKHS and Lake Superior School District in this annual event.
