About this mural:

Deb (Hall) McLean contributes her artistic values to the teachings of Mr. Johnson, her art teacher at William Kelley High. Deb is a 1985 alumni and painted the mural her senior year (1984-85).  Deb says “Mr. Johnson was my favorite. I learned a lot from him, more than just drawing & painting. I certainly wasn't the best artist but I was really interested in doing a piece inspired by my martial arts training.” By the time Deb had painted the mural she had already achieved her black belt status.   Deb currently lives in Australia and continues to bring a creative and artistic approach to everything she does. Her fitness classes are a fusion of artistry and energy portrayed through Yoga and Zumba. She owns her own wedding flower business where she combines color, vibrance, and movement along with soft and strong energies to help her artistic soul thrive. Deb has studied Korean art for nearly thirty years and is fascinated by how the animals depict both movement and style and how the forces of nature can be combined with human expression.   Deb is grateful for having an opportunity to reminisce about her days at William Kelley and to reflect upon the beginnings of her artistic life.  - Rae Ann Prasnicki (class of ’85), August 2018
